Biography
Prof Ciira Maina is an Associate Professor at Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT) in Nyeri, Kenya where he teaches electrical engineering and conducts research in a number of areas including bioacoustics, Internet of Things, machine learning and data science. Since September 2019 he has led the Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAIL) and serves as the board chair of Data Science Africa.
Prior to joining DeKUT in 2013, Prof Maina was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Sheffield where he developed Gaussian process models for analysis of data from high throughput biological sequencing experiments. Prof Maina was awarded his PhD from Drexel University,Philadelphia, USA and his BSc from the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
